Caerphilly Castle 12 October 2016, autor Cold War Warrior Follow Me on Ipernity
The Postern Gate and to the left, Caerphilly Castle's famous leaning tower. This is believed to be as a result of subsidence rather than enemy action.
The castle was built in the 13th Century as part of the domination of Glamorgan. It is the second largest castle in Britain, and was the first constructed with concentric defences, covering 30 acres (12 hectares). Its moat and artificial lakes system are described as the most elaborate water defences in Britain and probably based on those at Kenilworth Castle. Today, ruined but much restored thanks to the Bute family, it is run by the Welsh preservation group Cadw.
