Goðafoss Panorama, autor Bernd Thaller

The Goðafoss (waterfall of the gods) is a waterfall in northeastern Iceland. It is only about 11 meters high. The water of the river Skjálfandafljót crashes over a curved escarpment that is more than 150 meters wide. According to an old legend, Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði, after having made Christianity the official religion of Iceland in about the year 1000 C.E., threw the statues of the old Norse gods into the waterfall. This image is a panorama of four pictures and is provided for download in high resolution.
