The South West in Bloom Award: The Diamond Jubilee Award: Gold Medal The Herbs dig for victory with double award at Chelsea Flower Show Models of the characters from the TV show “The Herbs” made by Bath & North East Somerset Council’s gardeners - have helped South West in Bloom win two prestigious awards at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Parsley the Lion, Dill the Dog and Bayleaf the Gardener, who were previously on show in Bath’s Parade Gardens last summer, are part of the display which has won a Chelsea Gold Medal and the Diamond Jubilee Award for the Best Exhibit in the Great Pavilion. The South West in Bloom Garden is currently exhibiting in the main floral marquee at the Chelsea Flower Show to celebrate 50 years of Britain in Bloom. Barry Cruse, Chairman of Bath in Bloom, which won South West in Bloom for the 22nd time last year, said: “It was brilliant to find out that our exhibit has scooped two top awards at the world’s most prestigious flower show, thanks very much to the whole South West in Bloom team, and of course The Herbs! We are all over the moon at the result, this is a fantastic example of community working at its best.” The Herbs characters were created by Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Horticultural Excellence Team, based at the Royal Victoria Park Nursery. Team Supervisor Matt Soan was responsible for planting up The Herbs figures in Parade Gardens last year and went to the Chelsea Flower Show to help set up the display with Jon Wheatley, Chairman of South West in Bloom, who designed and coordinated the garden. Matthew Smith, Divisional Director of the Council’s Environmental Services, said: “We’re really proud of the whole team for all the hard work they’ve put into The Herbs sculptures and we’re delighted they’ve helped score continued success for South West in Bloom, as well as keeping beautiful Bath in the national and international spotlight.” The South West in Bloom Garden will be on display at the Chelsea Flower Show until Saturday 24th May. After Chelsea finishes, The Herbs, along with all the plants and other features of the garden, will be transported to Edinburgh in time for Gardening Scotland 2014.
