Blow-Me-Down Farm, autor NPS Park Cultural Landscapes Program
Mount Ascutney, seen from the Blow-Me-Down Farm.
Views of this mountain also featured prominently in the nearby Aspet landscape. Charles Beaman, founder of the Blow-Me-Down Farm, cultivated a community of artists at his estate which came to be known as the Cornish Colony. Sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, a friend of Beaman's and owner of Aspet, was one of the earliest members of this artist colony.
The structures and porches at the farm were constructed to highlight views of the landscape, and Beaman periodically moved buildings to other locations on the farm to create his desired effect and emphasize the area's rustic character.
