Cavalry Soldiers prepare for upcoming external evaluations during drill weekend, autor Virginia Guard Public Affairs
Soldiers from the Portsmouth-based 2nd Squadron, 183rd Cavalry Regiment, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team conduct training on the military decision making process, mortar live fire and dismounted maneuver March 1, 2014, at Fort Pickett in order to prepare for upcoming external training evaluations. Instructors from the Fort Leavenworth Doctrinal Training Team conducted MDMP training with members of the squadron staff to enhance their planning skills for a Warfighter exercise scheduled for May. Soldiers from Troop A and Troop B live fired 120mm mortars and Soldiers from Troop C conducted dismounted situational training exercise lanes to help prepare for the Exportable Combat Training Center rotation planned for June at Fort Pickett. Troops A and B also conducted mounted maneuver lanes, and Soldiers from Troop C fired 60 mm mortars. The XCTC rotation will focus on section, squad and platoon external evaluation and validation with assistance from the Fort Stewart, Ga.-based 188th Infantry Brigade.
